Summit Homes and HOA partner to bring clubhouse and 3rd pool to Stoney Creek

Lee’s Summit, Mo. – October 11, 2017 – New home builder Summit Homes has announced plans to collaborate with the Stoney Creek HOA to build a 3rd pool and new clubhouse in Stoney Creek, a Summit Exclusive Community in Lee’s Summit.

Summit announced on Thursday, October 5th at the HOA meeting its intention to contribute $326,000 as the Community Developer toward the building of a new clubhouse, cabana and pool. The HOA voted to partner with Summit to cover additional costs of the construction. Several design options are now under consideration, including zero entry wading waters, a wet deck with mother’s wall and bubbler fountains, a rock wall with a slide and a lounge area. The clubhouse, also still in a design stage, is proposed to have a sitting area and bar connected to an outdoor open cabana with additional seating.

“It’s an exciting time to be a resident in Stoney Creek. I think the home owners understand the value in having the best amenities and appreciate the collaboration between their community and Summit Homes. I’ve already spoken with so many people who have been eagerly waiting for this addition,” said Missy Barron, Community Manager for Reserve at Stoney Creek.

Because of the shared financial expense, homeowners in Stoney Creek will see no increase in the 2018 HOA dues.  Plan and design renderings are being drawn by NSPJ Architects. The goal is to have the construction complete by spring and open for the summer 2018 season.

“Stoney Creek HOA has been the perfect partner in helping Summit build a great community for its homeowners. We’re proud to work together with the HOA to bring this beautiful new amenity to families in this area,” says Travis Ruf, Development Manager for Summit Homes.

Summit Homes adds I-joist flooring system as standard feature

February 3, 2016

Lee’s Summit, Mo., February 3, 2016 – Summit Homes recently announced that every home from their Signature and Villa Collections is now being built with an I-joist floor system.

An I-joist is manufactured by connecting two engineered wood “flanges” with one wood “web” in between to form and “I” shape.

I-joist technology offers both performance and environmental benefits for new home construction. The engineering mechanics involved in the “I” shape of the joist allows for the most lightweight and efficient use of wood to support a load. I-joists offer uniform dimensions and are manufactured in long lengths, allowing a continuous joist to span the width of the house in most cases, thereby maintaining a level framing surface. The increased strength and straightness of I-joists greatly minimize squeaky floors.

“We are excited to implement I-joist flooring systems as the standard for our Signature and Villa Collection homes. This technology will help us deliver even higher-quality homes to families all over Kansas City,” says Joe Ackerman, Vice President of Construction Operations for Summit.

The I-joist flooring system joins Summit’s extensive list of standard features for the popular Signature Collection, including electronic keypads at the front entry, USB charging outlet in the kitchen, premium Kohler plumbing fixtures, Encompass by Pella vinyl windows, custom kitchen cabinetry, Bosch appliances and a 96.5% efficiency furnace and 16 SEER AC unit with a programmable thermostat.

Summit Homes implements use of new HELIX™ micro rebar in Lee’s Summit

October 30, 2015

Lee’s Summit, Mo. – Oct. 30, 2015 – Summit Homes has begun installing HELIX™ twisted steel micro reinforcement (TSMR) in new homes built in Lee’s Summit. TSMR is a groundbreaking technology in the construction industry that replaces traditional heavy steel reinforcing bars (rebar) used in concrete foundations. Helix micro rebar are small filaments of twisted carbon steel wire coated in electroplated zinc and cut to 25 mm length. The filaments are mixed into wet concrete which is then poured into standard foundation forms, a method which evenly distributes reinforcement throughout the concrete matrix of the foundation and makes the foundation stronger, safer and more durable.

TSMR is approved for use by the International Residential Code. Summit is actively working with Dan Bromley of ABI Corporation (a leading concrete foundation contractor), and municipality representatives throughout Kansas City to incorporate the new technology into local building codes and pave the way for widespread use of TSMR throughout the metro.

Advantages of using TSMR in new home foundations include:

  • Helix micro rebar filaments provide almost infinite multidirectional reinforcement that increases shear strength and adds durability and impact resistance to the concrete.
  • Helix micro rebar drastically reduces foundation cracking in general and keep cracks tight and short, allowing microscopic fissures to develop as necessary but preventing the development of unsightly larger cracks.
  • Helix micro rebar is made from 50% recycled steel and uses less overall weight in steel, reducing environmental impacts associated with its shipment and installation.
  • The use of Helix micro rebar makes foundation pouring faster and safer, reducing the time and labor needed to place and inspect traditional rebar and minimizing the risk of injuries associated with heavy rebar.
